All Energy Degrees in Nebraska

The vast plains of Nebraska hide an intriguing energy story. In 2022, the voracious industrial & agricultural sector accounted for 39% of electricity retail sales. This power—in part—helps to keep Nebraska’s extensive irrigation network alive. The state still runs on coal (49% of its total in-state electricity net generation in 2022), but new grants from the Rural Energy for America Program are pumping money into renewable energy systems. Wind is popular, solar is controversial, and nuclear remains an option. To keep crops growing amidst the extremes of climate change, the state needs innovative thinking.
