L. Andrew Gish received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from MIT. He served for 30 years in a number of roles in the U.S. Navy, including submarine officer, diving and salvage officer, and shipyard project manager. From 2013 to present, he served as an Associate Professor of Ocean Engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy. His research and teaching interests and expertise include ocean renewable energy, underwater vehicles, hydrodynamics, and fluid-structure interaction. He has published journal and conference papers on a range of topics, including underwater implosion, inductive recharging of AUVs, hydrokinetic turbines, and wave energy. He currently lives in Annapolis, MD, where he enjoys running, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his family.
