Nuclear energy may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you picture the forests & rock-strewn mountains of New Hampshire. But over half of the state’s electricity is generated by the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, the largest single nuclear reactor in New England. In 2022, the state updated its 10-year energy strategy, but New Hampshire is still lagging behind neighboring states in energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts. In recent years, hydropower has been affected by droughts and wind & solar generation has been negligible. New ideas are required.
You can be part of the change by earning your degree from an NH school in our listings. Aspiring UNH students should pay particular attention to the university’s involvement in the new Atlantic Marine Energy Center (AMEC), which is one of only four National Marine Renewable Energy Centers (NMREC) in the country. Dartmouth applicants may also want to investigate energy engineering research within Dartmouth Engineering and the College’s interdisciplinary Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy & Society.
